Merchandise Buyer for Apparel and Imprinted Products

The primary responsibility of the Merchandise Buyer for Apparel and Imprinted Products is to maximize sales and profitability of assigned product lines, in a culture of outstanding customer service, through the development and implementation of a strategy, analysis and appropriate reaction to sales trends. This Merchandise Buyer partners with the Bookstore Director in support of stores sales, gross margins and turnover objectives.

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Merchandise Buyer develops and executes a financial and buying plan to include a balanced assortment of selecting merchandise for resale appropriate to a University campus, marketing, advertising, store presentation and inventory control.
  • Selects and purchases for resale, all merchandise for the assigned
    departments: apparel, imprinted merchandise, gifts and greeting cards
    • Proactively stays apprised of market trends
       
  • Plans and coordinates all aspects of the store's e-commerce module relative to appropriate departments including on-line sales catalog
     
  • Develops, for approval, and executes seasonal and academic calendar merchandise plans and pricing strategies
    • Determines promotional calendar
    • Profiles target customers to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Develops visual presentation and windows in support of seasonal promotions
    • Operates the SSI trailer during the Football season and commencement
       
  • Prepares all data entry and inventory controls in the MBS system allowing for the necessary creation of purchase orders and receiving reports.
    • Maintains UPC/SKU data base required for cash register scanning
       
  • Maintains collaborative partnerships and negotiates effectively with
    Vendors and internal colleagues
    • Maintains strong however, appropriate vendor relationships.
    • Manages vendor performance to achieve financial objectives
       
  • Completes accurate forecasts evaluating the financial components based
    on current trends that are used in overall budget development
     
  • Selects, trains, motivates, supervises and develops a team attitude of approved student staff to ensure effective department performance.
     
  • Acts as the SSI Store's representative to the WCU Commencement Committee
    • Coordinates all aspects of in-store cap and gown distribution
    • Coordinates all aspects on class ring program
       
  • Participates on a rotating basis, the store opening and closing schedule
     
  • Related duties and responsibilities as necessary and/or assigned.
