Student Services, Inc. is an independent, self-supporting business organized as a not-for-profit
501-(c)(3)corporation. A Board of Directors is appointed/elected to represent the WCU campus
community and govern the operations of the business. The directors establish broad policies and
directions, act on major operating issues, approve the budget and give direction to the executive
director.
The Board consists of nine (9) appointed/elected directors and the executive director. The
officers of the corporation are the chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, treasurer and the
executive director.
Of the nine (9) elected positions:
- Three members must be students elected by the SGA General Assembly, one of which must be a member of
the SGA Executive Committee;
- Three member must be WCU Council of Trustees appointed by the Council chairperson;
- The remaining three positions must be appointed by the WCU president from the administrative or
faculty personnel.
Directors are appointed/elected for a one (1), two (2) or three (3) year term starting with the annual
meeting in June. To be eligible for appointment/election you must be an active member from the
categories above at the time of appointment. Occasionally directors are appointed/elected to
complete an unfulfilled term.
The Board of Directors meets monthly, except May, July and August, to fulfill its role. The
annual meeting is held each June. Other meetings are held throughout the year on an as need
be basis. Special meetings and executive committee meetings are called occasionally to address
special situations.
The Board uses the committee system to assist in fulfilling its responsibilities. Standing
committees include the finance, bookstore and general operations committee. While a director
must chair the committee, committee membership is encouraged from within the campus community.
